Define Community Medicine according to WHO. State the difference between Community Medicine and Clinical Medicine.

 Community Medicine:

Community Medicine is the new branch of medicine recently added with a concept to provide health all of the community as it is the basic right of the community. Community Medicine may be defined as;


A WHO technical committee  (1972) defined “Community Medicine is a system of delivery of comprehensive health care to the people by a health team in order to improve the health of community.”

 

 Difference between Community Medicine and Clinical Medicine.

Clinical Medicine

 It is the preventive, promotive , and curative r
ehabilitative health care.

 It is the curative treatment of disease
individual.

 It serves the individuals and families at the community level.

 It serves the individual at his-personal leve

 Professionals go to the community.

 Patients go to the doctor.

 Community diagnosis is done

 Clinical diagnosis is done.

 Fee is not required

Fee is required

 lt is field oriented

 It is hospital oriented

 Team-work is extremely necessary.

 Team-work is needed only in few occasions e.g-in an operation or in emergency management.

 Field trail and surveys are very important

 only clinical trail is important

 Skill is very important in controlling epidemics

 Skill is necessary to tackle emergencies .e.g- in surgical cases

 Monitoring condition is poor
